What do Scouts do?

Scouts is where young people make new friends, have amazing adventures, and learn new skills. From camping and hiking to coding and community projects — there's something for everyone.

Every week we give almost half a million 4–25 year olds the skills they need for school, college, university, the job interview, the important speech, the tricky challenge and the big dreams: the skills they need for life.

Everyone's welcome here. All genders, races and backgrounds. Regardless of your young person's physical ability — there's a Scout adventure out there waiting for them. And we'll help them find it.

Welcome from our Group Lead Volunteer

Hello, I’m Nic, the Group Lead Volunteer at 1st Gotherington Scouts.

Whether your young person is just starting their Scouting journey or has been with us for a while, this page is here to help you find the key information you may need as a parent.

Thank you for being part of 1st Gotherington Scouts. Our Group is run entirely by volunteers, and with the support of our families we’re able to give young people brilliant opportunities, new skills and adventures they’ll remember.

Parent essentials

Scoutworks is the main place for parents to manage their young person’s Scouting journey with 1st Gotherington.

Use Scoutworks to check payments, view event information, complete permissions, see finances and keep your young person’s details up to date, including emergency contacts, medical information, allergies and additional needs.

Our sections meet during term time at Gotherington Village Hall. Leaders will share section-specific details, event information and any changes through Scoutworks or directly with parents.

For common questions about subscriptions, uniform, badges, camps, moving sections and what to expect, please visit our FAQ.

Our group is run by volunteers, and parent support makes a huge difference. Whether you can help occasionally or would like to volunteer more regularly, we’d love to hear from you.

If you cannot find what you need, please contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Keeping young people safe

The safety of young people is our number one priority. All adult volunteers are vetted through the DBS process and follow the Scouts' safeguarding policy. Scouts also has a dedicated safeguarding team available if you ever have concerns.
